If no better mutations are available, take something that will give you ammo, like Lucky Shot, Rabbit Paw, Open Mind, or, if you're really hurting for ammo, Last Wish. It also makes sub-optimal offensive weapons more viable. Take trigger fingers, since you'll be able to swing your melee weapon a lot faster as long as you are killing stuff. Also, if you already have Scarier Face and then take Gamma Guts, snowbots and freaks can't hurt you as long as you are moving. Scarier Face has some nice synergies: with it, Shovel can now kill crystal spiders in one hit, making it a viable weapon all the way into the throne fight. Take Scarier Face, as enemies will die more easily and therefore more quickly. If nothing like this shows up, damage is generally more important (take Crossbow over Pop Gun, for example), but appropriate weapons are invaluable for taking on lil hunter and the throne. Get Auto Crossbow, Gatling Slugger, Assault Slugger, Auto Shotgun, or another mid-to-high damage, high rate of fire weapon. Hammerhead can be good for getting out of tricky situations. Euphoria can also help, since it will give you more time to react to attacks. Take Boiling Veins if no other mutations take precedence, since you are always under 4 HP and therefore always immune to explosions/fire. Take Throne Butt: melting's explosions erase projectiles, meaning bigger corpse explosions can be an effective way to defend yourself Take Long Arms as well, since you'll be able to deflect projectiles from further away, and take care of assassins with ease. Get a melee weapon as soon as possible: preferably Shovel, Energy Sword, or Jackhammer. You don't get hit, you don't die. Here are the strategies I used to get Melting's B-Skin: Solves the issue of Oasis crippling your loot. Maybe that's a bit cheesy, but it sure is effective. If I didn't have access to that, I'd use the Gun Gun to get a better weapon in 5-2. If I had to do Melting's B skin today, yes, I'd use the Golden Nuke Launcher. And I spent way more time working on the Golden Nuke Launcher.Īh well. I must have found at least two dozen Gun Guns before getting one Golden Nuke Launcher. Indeed, the Golden Nuke Launcher is a quick way to take down bosses and would work wonders for this achievement. Getting weapons from 10 levels further when visiting a vault is pretty damn nice. Should be an hour of work, maybe two, and then you have the Gun Gun pretty much forever. That's if I don't get Heavy Heart, in which case I'm pretty much guaranteed to find it within a few levels. With 75 weapons dropping from the Crib, I often get it on the first try or very often by the second. Crown of Guns run and grab Open Mind along the way. That would require a golden nuke launcher first. If you get familiar with it/get boiling veins you are set. A golden nukelauncher one shots most things. If you do want a big edge and you have hard mode unlocked. I think you'll get the B-skin faster by just trying. Originally posted by Matthanic:Personally I'd say the tediousness of farming the gun gun is too much. Just keep trying and you'll get it sooner or later. The achievement's nowhere as bad as it sounds. In yesterday's run, I was carrying a Golden Nuke Launcher and thus didn't need to use melee, but trying to kill the Throne without a melee weapon and without ever getting hit a single time is very challenging if you can't kill the Throne quickly. I'd try for a melee weapon unless you happen to have overwhelming firepower. I'd suggest farming a decent weapon or two in the 5-2 vault (using the Gun Gun).Īnd yes, melee is a major asset. Your level being lower isn't all that impactful, but a good weapon can let you kill the Throne nearly instantly, which is important. I accidentally re-did this achievement just yesterday (wasn't intending to, the game just never gave me either of the forbidden mutations) and I had indeed used the Oasis.ĭo note, however, that taking the Oasis will also cripple both your level and your loot level. Taking the Oasis does strongly reduce your chances of dying to a random attack while getting to the Throne it'll cut through multiple levels and significantly reduce the number of enemies in later levels.
